Love Flamenco World Tour Brings a Night of Cante, Baile and Compás to the Carver

San Antonio’s fall flamenco calendar gets an international jolt on September 30, when the Love Flamenco World Tour arrives at the Jo Long Theatre at the Carver Community Cultural Center.

The touring production brings together cante, baile, guitar, palmas and percussion in a program built around traditional flamenco while presenting the form with the scale and polish of a contemporary stage production. For a city with its own deep flamenco history, the stop offers audiences a chance to see artists working directly within Spain’s current professional flamenco circuit.

A cast rooted in contemporary Spanish flamenco

The company is led by singer Antonio Gómez “El Turry”, joined by Sevillian cantaor Iván Carpio. Guitarist Marcos Gago “Marcos de Silvia”, a recipient of a Paco de Lucía Foundation Grammy scholarship, provides the musical backbone.

On the dance side, Fuensanta Blanco and Verónica Fernández “Vero La India” bring contrasting qualities of force, elegance and control, while Ricardo Fernández “El Tete” represents a younger generation of bailaores shaped by Spain’s tablao tradition. Miguel Rodríguez “El Cheyenne” rounds out the ensemble with compás, palmas and percussion.

Why this San Antonio stop matters

Flamenco in San Antonio has never existed only as an imported art form. Generations of local dancers, musicians, teachers and families have built a distinct regional tradition here. A touring production like Love Flamenco creates another point of contact between that local history and the evolving art form in Spain.

The Carver has also become an important stage for ambitious flamenco productions in the city. Presenting the tour in the Jo Long Theatre gives the artists room for the physical impact of footwork, live cante and the dramatic shifts in dynamics that are difficult to reproduce outside a theater setting.
