Archive Methodology

Purpose and Scope

The WeFlamenco Fest archive documents artists, educators, musicians, photographers, designers, studios, companies, cultural institutions, venues, and community programs connected to the festival and to the wider development of flamenco and Spanish dance in San Antonio and the surrounding Texas region. Inclusion recognizes a documented contribution to this cultural history; it is not a ranking, endorsement, or claim to represent every participant.

Selection and Research

Entries are developed from festival records, programs, photographs, interviews, artist and organizational websites, municipal and institutional archives, reputable journalism, university collections, and documented public performances. Names, titles, affiliations, dates, and biographical claims are compared across available records whenever possible. First-person information may be used for an artist’s current practice, while historical claims receive preference from independent or institutional documentation.

Sources and Citations

Artist biographies include visible source links so readers can examine the documentation behind an entry. Priority is given to official artist or company pages, government and cultural-institution records, university archives, established publications, and recorded oral histories. Social-media pages and event listings may be used when they provide the clearest surviving evidence of a local performance, collaboration, or organization. A source link confirms the information it supports; it does not imply that the source created or approved the complete biography.

Dates, Images, and Oral Histories

Dates reflect the best documentation available and may be revised when stronger evidence emerges. Images are identified by subject and credited when creator information is known. Oral histories preserve personal testimony and lived experience; they are presented as individual recollections and may offer perspectives that differ from written records.

Corrections and Continuing Stewardship

This is a growing archive. WeFlamenco Fest welcomes documented corrections, additional sources, name and title updates, image credits, and information about omitted contributors. Substantive changes are evaluated against available evidence, and entries may be expanded as new records and oral histories become available. The archive is maintained as an ongoing public-history project rather than a finished account.
