Artist Profile
Jessica Ahr
Communicator — keeping San Antonio’s flamenco community informed, included and connected.

Flamenco Artist · Educator · Cultural Organizer
Jessica Ahr’s place in San Antonio flamenco has been shaped by performance, teaching and more than a decade of sustained involvement in the community. Her work moves between the stage, the classroom and the less visible cultural work that allows relationships to continue across generations.
Ahr began her flamenco education with San Antonio pioneer Teresa Champion, connecting her directly to one of the city’s important flamenco lineages. She later continued her development through advanced study in the United States and Spain, including intensive training at Madrid’s Amor de Dios.
Her performance experience includes work with several San Antonio ensembles as well as a national tour with Gala of the Royal Horses in the featured role of “La Flamenca.” Across theatrical productions, festivals and tablaos, she has developed a career grounded both in San Antonio’s history and in continued study of the form.
Education is equally important to her work. Ahr has taught through local arts and dance programs and has demonstrated a particular ease with children and families. Through WeFlamenco Fest, she has hosted the Kids Fair and participated in family programming including storytime and book readings, creating accessible entry points into flamenco for young audiences.
Her contribution also extends beyond teaching and performance. More than a decade in San Antonio flamenco has made Ahr a trusted point of contact across artists, studios, organizations and generations. She helps information move through the community, including to longtime artists and supporters who may not be active online, often through direct conversations and personal outreach.
That connective role is cultural work in its own right. Ahr helps maintain relationships, keep people informed and ensure that different parts of the community remain in conversation with one another.
As a founding board member of WeFlamenco Fest, she has contributed through performance, education, family programming and community outreach. Her strength is continuity: understanding the people as well as the art form and helping make sure no generation of the community becomes invisible to the next.
