San Antonio’s Carver Community Cultural Center looks ahead with a 2026–27 season built around legacy, innovation and community.
The Carver Community Cultural Center is opening a new chapter with a 2026–27 season that brings together established artists, emerging voices and performances that cross generations and genres.
The new season reflects the Carver’s longstanding role as one of San Antonio’s most important cultural gathering places. Since 1929, the Carver has served the community through artistic presentations, education and outreach, with an emphasis on African and African-American heritage.
A Season Across Genres
Among the highlights is funk pioneer Fred Wesley, whose career helped define the sound of James Brown. The season also features rising jazz vocalist Tyreek McDole and acclaimed a cappella group Kings Return.
Dance audiences have reason to pay attention, too. New Zealand’s Black Grace brings its internationally recognized contemporary dance tradition to the Carver, while Rennie Harris Puremovement brings hip-hop culture and choreography to the stage.
Jazz legends Dee Dee Bridgewater and Bill Charlap add another dimension to a season that moves between jazz, funk, dance, theater and contemporary performance.
Local Voices, Community Connections
The Carver will continue spotlighting San Antonio artists and traditions, including In the Spirit of Ellington and the return of Divas of Eastwood. The Little Carver Intimate Series will also provide a closer look at regional talent.
Community engagement remains central. The season includes an a cappella competition and a community cookout connected to artist Endea Owens.
The season closes with The War and Treaty, the genre-spanning duo known for bringing soul, country, rock and gospel influences together in a powerful live performance.
